Dear Friends,

Kerala Iyers Trust (KIT) would like to update that Mr. Vikram Narayan (29) is undergoing post-stroke medical treatment at Arya Vaidya Chikitsalayam, Palakkad.

No need for you to send any funds at this stage. As the target amount was raised from the KIT Corpus fund, to which you have already contributed.

Please find below a quick summary of the case and also the list of donors whose contributions were used for supporting this case.

Many thanks to all the donors and not the least, Mr R Ramakrishnan, the KIT Volunteer, who provided us with a detailed field visit report and recommendations

Quick Summary & Field Visit Report:

Mrs Shanta Narayan, employed as Housekeeping & Administration Manager, Tapovan CBE, is a widow, who has lost not only her husband, but all their wealth in treating him till the last.  Her only son  Vikram Narayan, 29, who came visiting his mother, suffered a stroke in June 2010, and was admitted at Coimbatore Medical College Hospital, after initial treatment at K G Hospital.  He was shifted to CMCH due to their precarious financial condition. The doctors at both hospitals recommended a surgery to remove the blood clot from the brain.

Doctors treating Vikram informed his mother that he will require surgery, that may run up to around Rs.5 lakhs including post operative treatment.

Since this a very complicated surgery, Shanta mami sought opinion of 2 other doctors. The expenses of the surgery alone was expected around Rs.1.5 Lakhs. In the meanwhile, Vikram was moved to Tapovan where Shanta mami has lodging facilities. The stroke has affected his left hand & left leg. He has lost clarity of speech. He is not bedridden though and can move around.

After some deliberations, they decided against a brain surgery as they were afraid of the consequences and was not certain of a positive result.

Subsequently Shanta mami was advised to provide Ayurveda treatment for Vikram.

KIT Volunteer, Mr.Ramakrishnan, had been in touch with the family and the doctors throughout the 4-5 month process.

Simultaneously Shantha mami has approached the Arya Vaidya Chikitsalayam, Coimbatore and had a consultation with Dr.Sreevatsa - MD Ayurveda. He has assured that Vikram's condition can be cured through a prolonged ayurvedic treatment. He has initially prescribed Thailam, arishtam & choornam which Vikram has started consuming. He has suggested the following oil massage treatment for Vikram:

1.Abhyanga - 7 days
2.Shirodhara - 7 days
3.Yogavasti - 7 days.

The above cost of treatment is approx. Rs.25000/- plus Rs.5000/=- for medicines. Thereafter post treatment care and medication will cost approx. Rs.10,000/month for 3-6 months. This includes cost of physiotherapy.

KIT found this case a genuine & deserving one and decided to support the family with an amount of Rs.60000 for this family to take care of the medical expenses. The funds were transferred in 2 instalments.

No need for you to send any funds at this stage. As the target amount was raised from the KIT Corpus fund, to which you have already contributed.
