Dear Parents of Brides and Bridegrooms subscribing to our Global~Matri~Initiative (GMI)!
This week, we are pleased to present to you our List #12 of Prospective Brides and Bridegrooms living in 8 Midwestern States ~ Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska and Wisconsin. In States like Iowa, Nebraska, Wisconsin, and Minnesota, least densely populous States, which are predominantly agricultural based, there are more cornfields and cattle than human beings out there ~ while the prospective brides and grooms from India with H1Bs are roiling it out so hard out there to pursue their Masters or PhD or doing a job ~ it has been very, very difficult for our Initiative to match alliances for them in these remotest parts ~ to where the bride or the groom from other parts of the U.S. are simply unwilling to relocate to these States in matrimony, because he or she cannot find a job offer there commensurate to his/her educational qualifications in the event of a marriage! So our match making efforts have been a kind of challenge! so to speak! Moreover, the H1B-GC transition, a process into which many brides and grooms are into, is also not very conducive to leave one's job and to relocate to these remotest corners in matrimony! Nonetheless, we are optimistic that our efforts will help assist parents in what they are seeking for!

Your email on "Pathu vida jadaga Porutham" was excellent advice to many parents. I am surprised that how many parents do not realize that the limits placed by themselves reduce the number of potential candidates. I have always felt, that parents have to allow most alliances to be decided by the girl/boy and not restrict them based on their own preferences (keep the gate wide open). Velliyiur Subbarao <

Well said Velliyiur Subba Rao! There are enough impediments out there, many of them not created by Parents but "visa~created" ~ visa incompatibility between H1Bs to J1s to L1s, limitations on GCs marrying to brides from India in not being able to join spouses quickly, not being able to relocate because brides and grooms are transitioning from H1B~GC for fear of losing their queue while waiting for GCs, which seemingly is taking years and years, unwillingness on the part of brides to relocate in matrimony because she cannot find another suitable job in another location to where she has to move with a matrimony, brides from India NOT wanting to marry H1Bs because they have to come here as "dependents" as H4s, and "sit on the bench" from 7:00 am to 9:00 pm, while their husbands are roiling away at work Mondays~Saturdays, U.S. citizens not wanting to marry non-citizens because of their upbringing and cultures clash! many Indian Software companies not wanting to sponsor their employees for GCs ~ so many brides are not wanting to marry them because these prospective bridegrooms have to "return to India for good" when their H1B expires! ~ with many of them not knowing that if they returned to India, if they will ever find a good looking girl to marry them ~ in a market where brides are under "acute" paucity ~ So if you add to the above, "No Gothra Pourtham, Jadaga Pourtham, Naksthrams like Ayilyam, Moolam, Pooradam and Kettai are a taboo because your Josiyar said they are "persona non-grata" for whatever faith or reason ~ and then you have to weigh in on the 13 Other Pourthums I talked about in my Newsletter, "Pathu Vida Porutham" ~ Parents serving as "gatekeepers think they are helping their sons and daughters in getting married ~ but they are indeed hurting them! So as Velliyiur says "Keep the gates wide open"!
Allow the alliances to be decided by the girl/boy! While Parents of brides in the U.S., have been suffering from dearth of well educated and well placed bridegrooms, to match and pair them up with ~ (and I don't know where all of the bridegrooms are hiding in the U.S.!) ~ the availability ratio of brides versus grooms in the U.S. is (6 : 2 or a 1.5) according to our own statistics, as is evident from the Listings of Brides in these various State after State after State, we are cataloging ~ the challenge being faced by Brahmins in India seems diametrically opposite ! So acute has been ratio of availability of brides ~ that the ratio of Brahmin bridegrooms versus brides in South India is at an all time high of (7 : 1), in Chennai and South India, and the is even most acute in Kerala with a (10 : 1) ratio of boys versus girls, that Mr. Mahadevan Venkitasubbiar <vm194211@yahoo.co.in> writes in one of the Forums that I subscribe to, as follows: If the sheer number of Iyer/Iyengar girls are not adequate in the community because of adverse male/female ratio, the Iyer/Iyengar boys need to look for, to start with, brahmin girls from other regions. If the girls do not find the boys in the community fit enough to be their spouses, we need to find out the cause. I observe that many of the inter-caste and inter-community marriages take place because of long interactions at work places. Here each one look for and find only the positive side of the other. Incompatibility with or inadequacy in the other emerges out much later. Parents should impart value system to their children and train them to look for similar value system in the other. Girls and boys should be taught that the profiles in the Social Networking sites are not always accurate. If there is compatibility in the value system, other differences, would become manageable. If the differences are manageable, the problem, which we discuss, would cease to exist. Many Brahmin girls are accomplished in many respects and hence are looked upon as prized possessions. No wonder, there is competition to win their hands and the better competitor wins the trophy. Even Sriram and Arjuna have had to prove their prowess in a Swayamvaram....~ V. Mahadevan ~ I urge parents of brides in the U.S., to network more freely with our Initiative about the alliances that have not been a match for their daughters that they received from "other sources" and to network with our Initiative to bring to us such "discarded" alliances that did not fit the profiles of their daughters! Unless you the Parents of brides and grooms do this more and more, I do not see a quick "end-game" in our Initiative to getting more alliances for your daughters! So the next time you walk into us for Parental contact info on brides and grooms you may be seeking from our Initiative, please bring us 3 or 6 of your own "discards"! And have your relatives and friends who have sons and daughters to be married to Register with our Initiative ~ Help us to serve our community members well! We seek your participation and assistance in this area!
